The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has praised the great role played by the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector in feeding Europeans and has assured that it is essential and a good example of the strategic food autonomy promoted by the Government of Spain and the European Union (EU).
During the inauguration of the 16th edition of the International Fruit and Vegetable Trade Fair in Madrid, Fruit Attraction, Minister Planas stressed that Spain leads the EU in fruit and vegetable production and ranks seventh in the world, with an average annual volume of more than 27.3 million tonnes. Of this quantity, 46% goes to international markets, mainly to other EU countries, making the Spanish sector the leading supplier of fruit and vegetables in the EU and a world reference.
