The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has published, on its website, the Annual Report on Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Indicators 2023, which indicates that the trade balance of the agri-food and fisheries sector was 15,472 million euros, the most positive trade balance of all the industrial sectors of the Spanish economy, above the automobile sector (+ 8,629 M€) and non-chemical semi-manufactures (+ 8,148 M€).
Exports from the agri-food and fisheries sector account for 18.4% of total Spanish exports, while imports represent 13% of the total. The annual report shows that the agri-food and fisheries balance recovered in 2023, after the decline recorded in 2022, with an increase in value of 10 %, as exports increased more (+ 3 %) than imports (+ 1.2 %).
These data are framed within a trade balance of the total Spanish economy of -40,560 million euros, which has been weighed down by sectors with a strong dependence on imports, such as energy products (-33,080 M€) or capital goods (-20,389 M€).
