The Director General for Agricultural Productions and Markets of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Elena Busutil, has analysed this Tuesday with the fruit sector the good results of the summer campaign which, in general, has reached higher production figures and, in some cases, record export values, which consolidates Spain as the main European producer of this type of fruit variety.

The production of stone fruit (peach, flat peach, nectarine, apricot, cherry and plum) has reached 1,815,788 tonnes this year, which represents an increase of 3% compared to last season and 9% compared to the average of the last five seasons (2019-2023).

By products, the increase in apricot stands out, with a forecast production on 30 June of 152,929 tonnes. This represents an increase of 41% compared to 2023 and 26% compared to the average of the last five seasons. Cherry, with a production of 137,183 tonnes, is 31% higher than the previous year and 25% higher than the average. Peach production also increases to 856,574 tonnes, 2% more than in 2023 and 9% more than the average.

Estimates for the nectarine campaign place the production at 514,181 tonnes, which means a drop of 5% compared to 2023 but a volume 7% higher than the average of the last five seasons. Plum, with 154,921 tonnes, is also experiencing a 5% drop compared to the previous season, and 8% when compared to the average of the last five years.
