The Hydrographic Confederation of the Ebro (CHE) has summarised the last hydrological year (2023-2024) as the one that has put an end to a ‘very hard’ drought, with the recovery of agricultural production and recreational uses in the reservoirs, as well as that of adverse meteorological phenomena, such as droughts or storms, which have caused considerable damage, especially in the areas surrounding some wadis or minor watercourses.
With regard to droughts, the basin organisation reports that the experience acquired during the 2023 drought has been included in the ‘2023 Drought Report’, which will constitute a reference for future action. In addition, the next ‘Special Drought Plan’, which will replace the current one of 2018, is currently under public consultation.
In terms of flood preparedness, the ‘Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (third cycle) is currently in the public consultation phase, which is the first phase of the development of the Flood Risk Management Plan, whose third cycle is expected to be approved in 2027.
