Total spending on food and beverages in Spain stood at 107.78 billion euros last year, 2.7% higher than in 2021 and 1.1% higher than in 2019 – the pre-pandemic reference year – due in part to higher prices, but also to the recovery of out-of-home consumption. Meanwhile, the total volume consumed fell by 7.1% compared to what was purchased the previous year and by 8.1% less than in 2019, standing at 30,946 million kilos/liters, largely due to this transfer of consumption from inside to outside the home.
