What are organic production methods?

Organic production methods play a dual social role, providing, on the one hand, organic products to a specific market that responds to consumer demand and, on the other hand, public goods that contribute to the protection of environment, animal welfare and to rural development.

Who is in charge of supervising and controlling organic production?

The competent Authorities of the Autonomous Communities are responsible for the organization and supervision of the organic production control program, also playing other functions assigned in Regulation (EU) 2018/848 and its subsequent amendments. Already said Regulation, in its articles 34 and 40, makes it possible, for the application of the organic production control programme, for the competent authority to confer its power of control to one or more control authorities, or delegate control functions to one or more watchdogs.

Organic production: A public good

SInce its recognition organic production has been a public, that is, a heritage of all citizens and not a private good of a few people. Therefore, the best protection and defense of a public good must be done by a management and control body that is also public in nature.
