New genomic techniques, the future of rural areas and TACs and quotas for 2024 will be the focus of the next EU Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries.
In relation to the regulation on plants obtained by certain genomic techniques and their food and feed, the Secretary General of Agriculture has explained to the autonomous communities the regulatory proposal of the European Commission and has pointed out that this is a priority point within the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, given the potential of these technologies to contribute to a greater sustainability of the agri-food sector.
Fernando Miranda informed about the progress made by other EU Member States in the regulation of this matter and their position with respect to the proposal put forward by the Commission. He also explained the meetings of the working groups that have taken place so far and has indicated what will be the next steps in the regulatory development, which, he stressed, will have to pay special attention to organic production.
