The trial was launched in 1981, with the aim of addressing the factors that made it difficult for farmers to adopt organic farming. Since their inception, they have applied real field practices and scientific analysis to document the impacts of organic and conventional grain growing systems.

“The Farming Systems Trial is one of our most important research projects,” said Rodale Institute CEO Jeff Moyer in a statement. “In fact, with the FST’s 40 years of accumulated data and findings, it is fair to say that it is the most consistent study of organic agriculture anywhere,” he added.
